A Conversation That Matters: Chronic Pain, Empowerment & Holistic Care

I recently had the pleasure of joining Hannah on Season 2, Episode 12 of the Journey to the Well podcast for a deep and meaningful discussion about chronic pain and why it is almost never just a purely physical issue.
We talked about how the body functions as an interconnected system, where physical symptoms, emotional patterns, and energetic dynamics influence one another. Real healing, as we explored, requires looking beyond symptom management and working with the whole person.
I shared my own path from a career in IT into integrative medicine and acupuncture, along with the four foundational pillars of Chinese medicine. Diet and lifestyle, herbal medicine, physical therapies such as acupuncture and dry needling, and movement practices all work together to address root causes rather than simply chasing pain.
We also dove into pelvic floor dysfunction and how it can be linked to areas most people would never suspect, including the ankles, diaphragm, and even unresolved emotional stress. These connections help explain why chronic pain often persists when care is fragmented or narrowly focused.
This conversation is ultimately about redefining what healing means and giving patients permission to expect more from their healthcare experience. Thank you to Hannah for the thoughtful questions and for holding space to challenge the assumptions of modern medicine.
